About

Hi and Welcome!

Istanbul ferry Taste of Divine

My name is Christine and I’m the voice behind Taste of Divine. In a nutshell, I’m a Colorado girl currently living in beautiful Slovenia, with a love for food, healthy living, and the outdoors. I like to stay active, whether that means a trail run with my dog, kayaking with my hubby, or a bike ride now and then. This is my little space I’ve carved out of the world wide web to share recipes, fitness, and travel adventures.

If you’re looking for a place to find healthy recipes that don’t use processed ingredients, you’re in the right place. Stick around and check out some healthy meals and tips and tricks that I have learned along the way.

I love trying new food and making new recipes from around the world. Since I travel a lot with my husband’s job (lucky me!) I also recreate some of the dishes I try and put them on here.

American Sign Language (ASL) Vlogs

I’ve recently started a YouTube channel where I share cooking and recipe vlogs in ASL. I’m a former American sign language interpreter and this is a great way for me to incorporate two of my passions. The “former” part is because of the whole living in a foreign country thing. I’m just going to throw this out there because I get asked all the time–Sign language is not universal, so I can’t really interpret here (people always think it’s universal). I don’t understand the language here, spoken or signed, but I’m working on learning both. Since I’ve been disconnected from the Deaf community in the US for so long now, I’ve lost quite a bit of the language and I’m trying to get my hands up and start using it again through these vlogs.

My Story

When I was newly married, I didn’t know how to cook. At all. I basically grew up on fish sticks, tater tots, and ramen.  The hubby grew up on the opposite: a great homemade meal every single night. Every time we visit the in-laws I feel like I am in a fancy restaurant because the food is so good. So when we got married I had pretty big shoes to fill and started this blog to document my journey. I’ve come a long way since the first time I cooked for the hubby-he had to show me how to mince garlic!

In the process, I’ve grown to love cooking and have become increasingly interested in where our food actually comes from.  If you want to really open your eyes to the food industry, watch Food Inc. or read The Omnivore’s Dilemma or Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us.

I don’t follow any specific diet or anything, but I do limit processed food and sugar, and try to eat as close to the source as I can.  We do most of our shopping from local markets and get our meat from local farmers.  Although I believe in eating a more natural diet most of the time, I also think it is okay not to once in a while.

Most often, I follow these real food guidelines, and most of the recipes on this site will follow them too.

Whats with the name “Taste of Divine”?

Before I got married my last name was Divine. And with an name as awesome as that, I had to keep it around somehow!
